TIFFANY & CO.

A maison I
admired from afar.

I still remember what first drew me to Tiffany & Co.: the blue box, the pieces, and the stories that made the brand feel so distinctive. At the time, I could only experience the maison from the outside. This summer, I had the opportunity to step inside and understand the work, people, and decisions behind the name I had admired for years.

Growing up in India, I was familiar with jewelry through our family jeweler and the personal relationships that came with it. Tiffany introduced me to a different side of the industry, one that I wanted to understand beyond the products themselves. My Summer 2026 Retail Internship in New York gave me the chance to connect that early interest with the reality of working within a luxury maison.

What stayed with me most was seeing how much happens beyond the boutique. The client experience is shaped by the people and teams working behind the scenes, and by how well they work together. I left with a broader understanding of luxury and a greater appreciation for the work that goes into bringing a maison to life.

Beyond the finished moment

Luxury is built before a client arrives.

Before Tiffany, I mostly understood luxury through the finished client experience: the product, the setting, and the way a moment was presented. During my summer there, I began to notice everything that happened before that moment reached the client.

Conversations with people in different roles showed me how much thought sits behind a seemingly simple interaction. I became more aware of the preparation involved, the importance of product knowledge, and the way teams contribute to creating an experience that feels effortless. Seeing those connections encouraged me to ask more questions and to look beyond the responsibilities of any one role.

I was particularly struck by how much listening shaped the experience. Understanding what a client was looking for was not simply about identifying a product; it was about paying attention to their preferences, their reasons for visiting, and the meaning a piece might hold for them. That made luxury feel less like a performance and more like a relationship built through knowledge, sensitivity, and trust.

I also began to notice the influence of small details. The way a product was presented, the language used to describe it, and the care taken in each interaction could change how a client felt in the space. These details were easy to overlook from the outside, but my time at Tiffany showed me that they are often what make an experience feel considered and memorable.

Most importantly, I left with a stronger interest in the wider business. I wanted to understand how different teams worked together, how decisions moved through the maison, and how the standards associated with Tiffany were maintained across each part of the experience. The more I learned, the more I realised that curiosity is not separate from excellence; it is one of the ways excellence is sustained.

What Tiffany taught me

01

Curiosity

I learned to ask questions that went beyond the immediate task. Speaking with people across different roles helped me understand how much can be learned by listening carefully and looking at the wider context.

02

People

I saw that luxury depends on genuine human connection. Clients bring their own stories and expectations, while the teams behind the experience bring knowledge, judgement, and care. Both are essential to making an interaction feel personal.

03

The details

I became more attentive to the small choices that shape perception: how a product is introduced, how information is communicated, and how thoughtfully a client is guided through an experience.

04

Continuous learning

Tiffany encouraged me to remain open and observant. Each conversation and new perspective reminded me that there is always more to understand, particularly when different parts of a business come together.

Why it stayed with me

It changed the way I see luxury.

My time at Tiffany changed the way I see luxury. I began to look beyond the finished experience and appreciate the preparation, collaboration, and care that make it possible.

It also clarified the kind of environment I want to be part of: one where high standards are matched by curiosity, where details are treated with purpose, and where people are encouraged to learn from one another.

That experience continues to shape how I approach opportunities today. It reminds me to stay attentive to the details, to ask thoughtful questions, and to contribute with care.
